Filtering issues for worklogging

When using the Quick entry form to quickly enter multiple worklogs over multiple issues, we have several ways to filter the issues we wish to work on:

  1. Writing JQL directly in the Quick entry form via Search for issues control

  2. Using a previously saved Jira filter

  3. Applying settings from Filter Users and Period to the Search for issues control

Writing JQL directly in the “Quick entry” form

The simplest way to get a selection of issues we wish to worklog on is to write the JQL directly in the “Quick entry” form.

At the top of the form, we enter the JQL (with autocomplete) in the same way we would when using Jira native search for issues option.

In the example below we see that we get a different number of tickets depending on the JQL entered.

Using a previously saved Jira filter

For any filter that we previously saved in Jira to appear in the Filter list of the Quick entry form we need to mark it as favorite. If you need help regarding saving filters and marking them as favorite in Jira, check out this official article: Saving your search as a filter.

Once saved as a favorite - the filter shows up in the Filter control and can be used to fill in the Search for issues field, here’s an example:

Use Jira issue search to find the issues you need

Click Save as and name the filter:

Any filter you created is added to favorites, if you need to add others as favorite you can do that through Issues->Manage filters

The newly created filter will show up in the Filters control of Quick entry form.

Applying settings from Filter Users and Period to the Search for issues control

When using the Filter Users and Period controls we define the time period and the users for which the worklog data should be displayed. We might want to filter the tickets that will be shown according to this criteria (show tickets that have been worked on by selected users in given period). To accomplish this we simply click the Set filter to JQL button shown below:

This populates the Search for issues filed with the following JQL:

And filters the displayed tickets accordingly:
