Quick entry form
In addition to extending the standard Jira worklog experience when adding worklogs to a single issue, Worklog express has a Quick entry form which enables you to quickly view and add worklogs to multiple issues over multiple days.
To get an understanding of this form you can check out User story 1 - Quick entry form or continue reading to get an overview of main areas on the Quick entry form.
The main areas of Quick entry form are:
Search for issues
Worklog entry details
Filter user and Period controls
Worklog grid
Worklog list with details
1. Search for issues
Search for issues area is used to define which tickets will be displayed in the grid (the rows of the Worklog grid). There are several ways to filter issues - entering the JQL directly, using a saved favorite filter or by applying conditions defined in the Filter user and Period controls. To learn more about filtering issues in Quick form check out Filtering issues for worklogging.
2. Worklog entry details
Worklog entry details area is used to define the metadata for each worklog that we insert through the Worklog grid. This area has several controls:
Type - a list of defined Worklog types
Is billable - a checkbox that defines if the work logged should be billable
Work description - a free text field which is the standard Jira worklog description
When entering worklogs in the Worklog grid each worklog entry will be inserted with the currently defined metadata in the Worklog entry details.
3. Filter user and Period controls
The Filter user control is a multiple user picker that defines Jira users for which the worklogs will be show in the grid. If left empty, the default Jira behavior of showing worklogs of all users will be used. If a specific user is selected then only her/his worklogs will be displayed in the grid cells and in the summation values for rows and columns. For more info see Filtering worklogs by user.
Period start and Period end controls define the period that will be displayed in the Worklog grid (the columns of the Worklog grid). More on this: Changing the date range.
You can choose to display the grid in List view or Detailed view.
List view will show one row per ticket:
While Detailed view will add a row for each worklog type that has been worklogged under each issue:
If you wish to display only tickets that have been worklogged by selected users in the chosen period you can quickly accomplish this by clicking the Set filter to JQL button.
After changing values in this area you can press the refresh results button to apply your settings to the Worklog grid.
4. Worklog grid
The grid will display all the results that satisfy the defined criteria through Search for issues and Period controls. For more details on grid display check out Grid display details.
Worklog grid has two main parts - issue data for all the issues we filtered to the left and dates within the chosen period to the right.
For each issue the Issue key, Summary, Status and total Time spent are displayed:
And for each date in the period a column is displayed with one cell for each issue and a total value for that day on the bottom:
To enter a new worklog we simply choose a cell corresponding to the ticket and day in question and enter a value in the standard Jira worklog format, for instance 2h. After this, we press the “Return / Enter key” on our keyboard and worklog is saved and we are positioned on the next cell. If you wish to skip a cell, just press enter without entering any worklog hours. As mentioned, the metadata from Worklog entry details is applied to each inserted worklog.
5. Worklog list with details
When we are positioned in a cell within a Worklog grid all worklogs with details for the selected ticket and day are displayed in Worklog list:
Worklogs can be viewed and, if you have the right permissions for that project, edited and deleted in the Worklog list when you position the mouse over the worklog in question:
